PEST ALERT: Varroa mite detected on Asian Honey Bee in Townsville

An Asian honey (Apis cerana) bee hive has been found at the port in Townsville, Queensland. Scientific analysis of the bees has confirmed that two varroa mites (Varroa jacobsoni) were present on two of the bees.

Food Futures organisers have brought together key thinkers from around Australia and internationally to join in on panel discussions and share their experiences and knowlegde with participants. Speakers include leading businesses, key government agencies and politicans who represent primary industries from Federal, State and Territory levels. 

International keynote speakers will be a feature of Food Futures, delegates from Brazil will join us to discuss the agricultural development model that has been successfully in use there.


Over two days Food Future's will cover broad cross-sector issues as well as focusing in on specific aspects of Northern Agriculture. On day one sessions will investigate the big picture presented by markets and economics, issues to be discussed will stem from the experiences of successful Northern Farmers, research and development, soil and water resources, indigenous participation and environmental imperatives.
