The nursery and turf sector contributes approximately $18 million to the Territory economy every year. The turf industry is dominated by producers located mainly in the Top End, who sell turf for commercial landscaping and sporting purposes. The Territory has a unique advantage as turf is harvested throughout the year due to our high number of sunny days.
The local nursery sector contains a mixture of wholesale and retail nurseries, some of whom supply interstate markets. The Northern Territory is also home to specialist nursery operators that supply to forestry plantations and mango orchards. These nurseries play an important role in supporting the development our plant-based industries in the Territory.
