NT Farmers welcomes renewed leadership

14/12/2023

Northern Territory Farmers Association is pleased to announce the appointment of its new leadership team following yesterday’s Board meeting, including the re-election of Mr Simon Smith as President.

With a proven track record in advocacy and leadership, nursery owner Mr Smith has led NT Farmers since 2015 and has more than 30 years experience in plant-based industries in the Top End and Central Australia.

Mr Smith will be supported by Mr Frank Miller as Vice President, who has been re-elected to the position. Mr Miller was a founding member of Forestry Industry Association of the NT and has been a Board Director with NT Farmers since 2018.

The role of Treasurer has been appointed to Mango Producer and contractor Mr Nick Ormsby, after long-term Treasurer Kate Peake stepped down from the position last month following 9 years in the role. Mr Ormsby has been an NT Farmers Board Director since 2022.

“On behalf of our members and staff, we welcome the appointment of our leadership team,” says CEO Greg Troughton.

“With their ongoing commitment to and support of NT Farmers, I look forward to President Simon Smith and Vice President Frank Miller continuing their roles with the organisation, and welcome Nick Ormsby, with his dedication to financial stewardship, into the role of Treasurer.”

“With fresh perspectives and experienced continuity, NT Farmers is in a strong position to continue championing the interests of agriculture in the Northern Territory.”

Board Directors Ms Jessie Jenkins, Mr Bruce Connolly and Mr Paul McLaughlin will form part of the Executive Committee to ensure strong continued leadership and a smooth transition for CEO Mr Greg Troughton, who commenced in the role in early December following a comprehensive recruitment process.
